Magazines Part 2

1. Image Based- Image based covers are used for different things, like celebrity, fashion, and travel magazines. These sell well when the cover photo matches the theme and topic well. With fashion people take pictures of people not focused on the camera, in celebrity magazines people take portraits of smiling famous people, and in travel they take landscape photos. 2. Illustration Based-  These started to be used in the 30's. They are mainly used to present something funny or out of the ordinary. Most magazines that are illustrations are independent publishers. 3. Type Based- type based covers is when the authors type a title and other things that fill the whole page. They tend to be striking, shocking, and are rare. 4. Concept Based- This is a mixture of all of the other types of covers. These are rarer, but are used for business and news magazines mainly.  The photo is supposed to create a different meaning, irony from the words.

My Favorite Cover

Image
Favorite Soccer  features a photo of a boy balancing a ball on his head. Shot from below, the photo enhances the presence of the boy and creates a vanishing point towards the top of the page. This cover/ portrait was my favorite out of all of the choices for several reasons. First off I liked the layout of the cover, the subject in the center and the text on the sides I also think that this layout would go well with my portrait. I also like the photo in general, with the boy looking up, and the camera angled up. It makes the subject more interesting, and it also shows action. This shows no mergers, and also it is kind of like leading lines because you start looking from the boys waist and go up to the ball.

Magazine Tips

1. The first thing is I will be thinking about when making my magazine cover is that all of the colors will be dull when I print it out. 2. I should also put a memorable brand name on it. 3. I should make sure the image is appealing. 4, The cover should be simple, easy to scan and see what is in the magazine. 5.  I have to make the cover grab someones eye and get them interested in reading and buying it.
