Avoiding Merges

Two years and two wars after the September 11 attacks, President Bush's aura of invincibility has faded and his challenge may be to keep his presidency from being more associated with Americans dying in Iraq than with his dramatic pledge at Ground Zero to battle terrorism. Bush is shown with retired firefighter Bob Beckwith (R) at the scene of the World Trade Center disaster on September 14, 2001.
This picture is what you shouldn't do if trying to avoid mergers. This has merges behind President Bush and the other men. The merge is the building behind them, it draws attention and also merges the hats of the men to it.
A man watches smoke emit from the former site of the World Trade Center September 12, 2001 in Hoboken, NJ. Smoke filled the air all over lower Manhattan in the aftermath of Tuesday's terrorist attack and destruction of the World Trade Center.
This picture has no merges on the man unlike the other picture. It has no merges because the picture is zoomed out. This is the better picture of the two.
