Manuel Alvarez Bravo
Manuel Alvarez Bravo was born on February 4th, 1902. He was born and raised in Mexico City. Manuel got his first camera in 1924 after meeting Hugo Brehme the year before. He experimented with the camera for a couple of years. Then in 1927 he met Tina Modotti. This is when he started to take photography more seriously. His pictures mainly focused on folk art, nudes, rituals, and the streets of Mexico City. Manuel preferred large cameras because they produced better details. Alvarez took surreal photos of some ordinary things, others weren't as ordinary though. Manuel soon started win awards for his photos.One example is he won the Gold Metal Award from the National Arts Club. Manuel's first publication was the El Arte Negro. He had a very successful career, he ended up winning 150 awards. Unfortunately he ended up dying on October 19, 2002.
