Avery Smallwood was awarded Student of The Month for the month of March at Bowie High School.
Avery won student of the month by having perfect attendance, having good grades, and by doing something for our school community. She picked up trash around our school. "I feel extremely honored to be named the Student of The Year'', Freshman Avery Smallwood.
Student of The Month is awarded to students who set good examples. The students have to have good grades, perfect attendance, and they have to do something for our school community." I spent hours cleaning up our school, and I am extremely happy with how much progress I have made, " Avery Smallwood, Freshman.
Student of The Month must have all perfect attendance. This means that they must not miss a single day of school and have less than five tardies. " It has been hard making it to class everyday, especially when I have allergies," said by Freshman Avery Smallwood.
Student of The Month must also have good grades. This means that they can't be failing a single class. " I stressed over getting good grades, I had many late night homework sessions," said by Avery Smallwood, Freshman.
Some think that you had to be involved in many different clubs and sports, but that isn't true. Avery only plays soccer and helps with baseball. " I only spend 2 hours everyday playing soccer for Bowie, so I always feel energized for class," Avery Smallwood, Freshman.
To be selected you did not have to write an essay. All you had to do was do something for our community. " Thank god I didn't have to write an essay because I would have lost my mind," Avery Smallwood, Freshman said.
One of the biggest questions is what do you get for being selected. The truth is it varies, Avery got pizza and a plaque. " I was so happy when they asked what I wanted for my reward. Of course I chose pizza," Avery Smallwood.
One thing to remember is that people may treat you differently after you win. Many people gain friends, but Avery lost a few. " I was deeply saddened when some of my friends said I focus to much on school, and never make time for them," said Freshman Avery Smallwood.
Avery found this very odd because she was fitting in at Bowie. She liked her friend group and all of her teachers. Avery said," I liked all my teachers, and they were all nice to me. This made me feel welcomed.''
Avery is a regular student, but did something to go above in beyond. She does the same stuff every other student does. Avery Smallwood (freshman) said, " I like to just chill when I get home, so I can relieve my stress. For fun I sleep, eat, and watch Netflix when I get home."
