Great Black and White Photographers 3

Image
1. This is the first photo I saw from Manuel, and I liked it because I've never seen firefighters look like this. The two men, the subject caught my attention against the simple background. 2. In this photo I see flashing, lights, like fireworks from behind the camera. I see the man dancing and prancing around in the open area. I smell the gun powder, from the fireworks. I smell food from the distant gathering of people behind him. I can hear cheers and yelps from the man and others. I can hear the popping of the firework, and the huffing of the dancer. The loudest is the screams from the crowd and from a near by drum. I can feel the hot Mexican air on my body, and the coolness of the camera on my hand. I can feel the drum pounding inside my chest. The sandy ground being kicked up on my face. Also the man leaning on my side, in the crowd. I can taste fajitas and tacos that were served to me. I can also taste a cold coke washing the meal down. One thing that I didn...

Africa and Abandoned theme Parks

Image
1. Nick Bradnt's  photos bring a bigger picture and perspective on African animals. I noticed Nick tends to focus on endangered animals like elephants and cheetahs. I think his goal of the photos is to bring awareness. I also like how he puts his pictures in a blackened tone to give the pictures more feelings. I also like how he always has a simple, clear frame . He also has a clear center of focus with no mergers. This photo shows a simple picture of a skull, showing death which is common in those harsh conditions and with poachers. I like this photo because it is simple but conveys a big message. the tone also just fits the setting and subject greatly.  In this photo there is simplicity because there is no over powering background. It also features no mergers, and good framing because it captured the subject as the center focus.  I read that Nick doesn't like to use  telescopic lens and instead likes to get closer to his subject. he uses a medium...

Photo Manipulation and Ethics

Image
1. Some main points we read about in the passage were the main issues of photoshopping, how it has become accessible to anyone, solutions to regulate how much people hired photographers can edit their photos, and what/how much photoshop is okay. 2. The philosophy of some newspaper companies like  the Washington Post and New York Times is to limit how much their photographers can edit their photos. The Charlotte Observer’s photo policy states, “No colors will be altered from the original scene photographed” They each have rules for there photographers so they can provide the truth to the public. The photographers even have to turn in proofs and portfolios that show they kept the editing to a minimal. 3. I think some less unethical edits we could make would be to eliminate red eye, and if you can't see the subject brighten the photo. 4. I think this is the most unethical for several reasons. First off they inserted the candidates head onto this other ladies head, they a...

Biography of Manuel Alvarez Black and White 2

Image
Manuel Alvarez Bravo Manuel Alvarez Bravo was born on February 4th, 1902. He was born and raised in Mexico City. Manuel got his first camera in 1924 after meeting Hugo Brehme the year before. He experimented with the camera for a couple of years. Then in 1927 he met Tina Modotti. This is when he started to take photography more seriously. His pictures mainly focused on folk art, nudes, rituals, and the streets of Mexico City. Manuel preferred large cameras because they produced better details. Alvarez took surreal photos of some ordinary things, others weren't as ordinary though. Manuel soon started win awards for his photos. One example is he won the Gold Metal Award  from the National Arts Club. Manuel's first publication was the El Arte Negro. He had a very successful career, he ended up winning 150 awards. Unfortunately he ended up dying on October 19, 2002.                                 ...

Academic Picture Contest Reflections

Image
Filling The Frame The frame is filled with the boys working hard on welding. this filled the frame with excitement end made it energetic with the sparks flying. I also like how the background is dark and plain so it adds to the affect. Action and Adventure This picture shows the most action and excitement out of the person. The action is clearly the flame coming out of the boys hands. One thing I am confused about is how the boy is not getting burned. The emotion is excitement coming out of the boy. There looks to be enjoyment and maybe a little fear coming out of the boy. The Story I think this one goes best with story because I can relate to this picture easily. I have done experiments where we all crowd around the teacher. I feel like he is talking about the rules and what to do so he can do the experiment right. he also might be talking about what to write down or remember. 1. I picked this photo because it has no mergers...

Peer Reflection

https://averyssjournalismblog.blogspot.com/2019/09/prompt-shoot-1.html 1. One positive thing about the pictures is she captures a center of focus for all of them. Another one is I really like how for the metal picture she made the background blurry. 2.One thing that I would have improved would be the Bowie and square picture. Both of them had a strong center of focus, but the pictures weren't crazy interesting like her others. Also for the square picture I think it doesn't really focus on square because she took it horizontal, and she cut the person off. https://jacksonsphotojournalism.blogspot.com/ 1. One thing I like is his picture of the computer mouse. I like it because it is the clear center of focus. Another thing I liked is how he captured the whole courtyard in a picture. 2. One thing I would do differently for the Bowie courtyard was maybe cut the trees out of the side and on the other courtyard picture with the head I would have put a main subject like a ...

Post Shoot Reflection

1. Some challenges I encountered while trying to shoot were trying to find a good picture that resembled Bowie but also fit one of the composition techniques. Another problem I encountered was trying to find a picture that brought interest to the prompt metal. 2. I found myself thinking about framing the most. I tried to give a background but keep the picture simple. One time was for the the happiness photo of Avery. I tried to give the colors of the background but also not give too much to take away attention from her. 3. I would have redone the Bowie one, and took a picture that wasn't as faded, zoomed in more to frame it better, and make it simpler. 4. One thing I would have done the same would be the happiness photo with Avery because I feel like I framed it good, without mergers, and I got the rule of thirds in the picture. 5. I would be interested in shooting these prompts again because I feel like I could get better pictures for Bowie and metal

Prompt Shoot 1

Image
Happy This picture shows happiness because the subject(Avery) is smiling and posing. The mood also shows happiness with the clear sunny sky, and the bright colors of the school and tree. This also shows the rule of thirds which draws more attention to the subject. One thing I could have done would be to make the frame smaller to focus on the subject more. Metal This picture is of a metal fire hydrant. I tried to capture simplicity in this picture. The simplicity made the subject a clear picture of the hydrant. It also avoids mergers because if I took the picture horizontal the hydrant merged with the roof. Square This picture is a picture of a square we made with our feet. This picture shows balance because its a basic geometric shape with an even number of shoes. It also shows lead...
